New, fair Finland. So that no one gets left behind.
Decreasing inequality has to be the cornerstone of all political activity. Income gaps need to be made smaller and poverty has to be removed. Everyone is entitled to welfare.
COMPLETE BASIC SECURITY
Everyone has to have sufficient basic security. Taxes should be imposed according to financial ability and a monthly income below 1000 euro should be tax-free. Social security should be individual, so that it is not dependent on the income of a spouse or another family member. A basic income should be enacted. People having to run from one office to another has to stop. Working should be profitable in all situations.
BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS HAVE TO BE RESPECTED
Getting to a doctor should not depend upon where you live and how much you earn. The care guarantee in Finland includes also mental health services – we can’t leave people to get even more depressed in queues. Those caring for close relatives should get the help they need. People have a right to a good everyday life also in old age. We can’t make cuts into the well-being of children and young people.
EDUCATION AND CULTURE BELONG TO EVERYONE
The maximum size for groups in day care and comprehensive schools has to be written in the law. Enough places to study after comprehensive school have to be available. Education has to be tuition-free and the student allowance should be raised with rising living costs. We need more resources to basic funding for universities and we have to secure the future of the humanities at universities. The conditions of working in arts and sciences have to be improved. The number of local libraries can’t be decreased.
A FAIR WORKING LIFE
We need to improve the standing of self-employed people, people in precarious work and owners of small businesses. Everyone is equally entitled to annual leave, occupational health care and social security. Combining working with studying or a family life should be made easier and equality at the job market increased. By taking care of the grey economy, we can forget about making cuts in the public sector.
STOPPING CLIMATE CHANGE
A legally binding commitment to reduce emissions has to be made. More money and resources should go to improving rail traffic and the functionality of public transport. The forests in southern Finland should be protected to a bigger extent. Forests in the city areas and unspoiled coastal areas have to be saved. Emissions from agriculture need to be decreased and organic farming supported. The production of energy has to happen respecting the environment.
